The latest series of Fire and Ice

Aloha ladies and gentlemen, it is great to see you all here. I was invited to do the honors of opening this exhibition. I promise to be brief and take up to 10 minutes to introduce myself, introduce the artist and the Han's Gallery to you.

Some of you know me either as Joshua's wife, or as a nurse. But I am here today as a professional in the art field. My family background comes from business entrepreneurs, artists, and psychologists. I grew up in the art field. My grandmother made her name internationally, in the modern art, and today, if we google her name 200,000 entries come up, as international exhibitions, museum collections, books, articles, as well as cited in academic courses and master degree thesis. My family and I manage the Lygia Clark Association, representing her name world wide. Therefore, I am here as a professional who had been in art exhibitions in Brazil, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, and USA.

Now, I will introduce Joshua Miles to you. He has been raised in the art field as well. He has been a professional artist for the last 3 decades. Joshua begun to teach at age 16, at the Santo Antonio art institute. At age 20, he taught art at the Galveston College. At the age of 21 he became the assistant chair to the ceramic and sculpture department at the Southwest school of art and design. He masters diverse Medias, from wood, canvas, ceramics, and lacquer materials. Today he is showing a new series of work in wood and lacquer paintings.

There is a combination of characteristics that makes great artists: having knowledge to manipulate materials, experimenting and going beyond the limits of the material chosen. Have a creative spirit daring to travel areas never explored before. And courage to innovate, and expose themselves to others' critique. Joshua has this combination in him. I hope you enjoy this show, and come back on a bigger exhibition scheduled for September, which will include his astonishing sculptures in ceramics, and an impressive series of large lacquer painings. Welcome!
